Dancer Biographies

Cera Byer (Artistic Director) has been studying dance, music, and theater since the age of 4. She is trained in classical piano, musical theater, jazz, and blues vocals, and guitar. Her dance experience includes Ballet, Tap, Jazz, Modern, Afro-Haitian, Afro-Cuban, Afro-Brazilian, Kathak of India, Dunham Technique, Salsa, Samba, Tribal Bellydance, classical and contemporary Persian dance, and most recently, Flamenco.

In addition to being the founder and Artistic Director of Damage Control Dance Theater, Cera has performed professionally with Shahrzad Dance Company (Classical and Contemporary Persian dance), PULSE Modern Dance Ensemble (Modern), Ultra Gypsy Dance
Theater Company (Innovative Tribal Fusion Bellydance), Rara Tou Limen (San Francisco's only Carnaval contingent representing Haiti), as well as presenting her solo choreography in festivals, concert stages, lecture demonstrations, and private events across the Bay Area and beyond.

An active member of the Bay Area Arts community, Cera was a founding member of Gallery 21Grand, and performed and toured with the avant-rock band The Glass Bead Game from
2001-2003. Their albums are still actively downloaded online, and their Live CD is still in circulation.
Cera holds a BA in Dance (Performance and Choreography), with an emphasis in World Music and Dance from San Francisco State University. Cera holds certifications in Group Fitness Instruction (YMCA) and Pilates Mat (Sanchez St. Studios).
Presently, she owns and operates ShoeBox Studio in San Francisco, in addition to teaching dance daily at a local girls high school.
Cera's exhaustive, cross-genre approach to art making is a continual effort to communicate to all senses utilizing words, movement, music, and design.

Charlotte Nehm fell in love with dance in Highschool, where she was first introduced to modern, jazz, performance, and choreography. Charlotte loves learning new dance forms and has studied ballet, lyrical, modern, jazz, Dunham, Afro-Haitian, Flamenco, and Bellydance.
From 2005-2006, Charlotte performed with De/Em Dance Collective (Modern) and Tout Koule (Afro-Haitian) Dance Companies based in Sonoma County.
Charlotte received a degree in dance from San Francisco State University, where she is now persuing a graduate credential in dance education in public schools.
In addition to teaching dance at a local High School and Middle School,
Charlotte also volunteers teaching dance to children at various after-school programs.
